UEPLAC proceeds on its advice to the VRU on LA mechanism |
Having involved parliamentary experts from Latvia, UEPLAC proceeded on its support to the VRU EI Committee, aimed at improving procedures for the national legislation approximation and the LA work setup within the VRU.
Previously UEPLAC organised a study visit to the Latvian Parliament for the VRU EI Committee staff in December 2009, what allowed exchanging experience as to the legal approximation and the EU integration processes.
Interested in continuing co-operation with the specialists from the Latvian Saeima, that have been directly involved in the preparatory legal work on Latvia`s accession to the EU, the EI VRU Committee requested for the Project`s follow-up assistance.
Therefore, UEPLAC held a number of targeted round tables and trainings with the participation of Mr Edvins INKENS, the former Chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the Latvian Saeima, and Mr Ilmars SOLIMS, its present Head of Secretariat. Devoted mainly to enhancement of the LA mechanism within the VRU, the said events addressed also the detailed mechanisms for engaging other Committees in assessment of the EU-related draft legislation.
Given that a new bill concerned is being under the VRU EI Committee`s consideration, further work on the UEPLAC concept on legal approximation has been carried out together with Latvian experts.
Finally, a said visit allowed also to establish new peer-to-peer contacts with the VRU Apparatus staff, namely with the EI Committee and the Main Legal Office, as well as to consider setting up of the EU Law Information Centre on the VRU premises.
